Cockroaches are attracted to food that has been left out on the counter, dirty dishes in the sink, and crumbs laying on the floor. They are also attracted to moisture, such as from a leaky pipe underneath a bathroom sink or a wet bathmat on the floor. Unlike other insects, cockroaches are a problem year round.

In Australia, there are several different species of termites, but the one that causes the most damage to homes is the Subterranean termite. These termites invade buildings via a network of tunnels, and they build underground. These tunnels can radiate up to 50 meters from the main nest colony.

If you have mice that build a nest somewhere inside your home,that’s a big problem, and it could be considered an actual infestation. Consider this: A female mouse usually has anywhere from five to twelve babies in one litter, and she can have between five and ten litters a year.

An adult rat can squeeze into your home through a hole as small as the size of a five cent piece. Rats can live for up to 18 months, but most die before they are one year old. Rats have strong teeth that allow them to chew through glass, cinderblock, wire, aluminum and lead.

There are some dangers and property damage related to pigeons. Apart from being airborne parasite carriers, pigeons leave an absurd amount of droppings, which are extremely corrosive. The faeces are highly-acidic, stain the surfaces they’re on and can even increase the speed of deterioration of a structure.

Sugar ants are not dangerous to humans. They can bite and leave a little red mark, but it is not painful or life-threatening like bites from other breeds of ants can be.

The Bullet Ant sting is known as one of the most painful stings of any insect, the Bullet Ant sting contains a neurotoxin. The stinger is located on the ant’s abdomen and is 1-3 mm long. A single sting from one of these pests can leave a person in agony for up to 8 hours.

The world contains more than 12,000 species of ants, many of which go by the common name of “black ant.” Common black ants include Carpenter ants which are known to cause the most damage of all the different species of ants that commonly infest structures.

Despite their sheer size and somewhat scary appearance, huntsman spiders are not known to cause harm to humans, and therefore, are generally not considered dangerous. The bite of a huntsman spider, however, can be fairly painful and result in local swelling.

The venom of the golden silk orb-weaver is potent but not lethal to humans. It has a neurotoxic effect similar to that of the black widow spider; however, its venom is not nearly as powerful. The bite causes local pain, redness, and blisters that normally disappear within a 24-hour interval.

Brown Trapdoor Spiders are often mistaken for Funnel-web spiders but their bites are not dangerous. Local pain and swelling may occur.

A funnel web spider can kill you as fast as 15 minutes, but can take up to several days. Of the 35 species of funnel web spiders, the Sydney Funnel Web Spider has become widely known as the most deadly.

The white tailed spider is commonly found in homes throughout Australia. Most bites occur indoors, at night and in warmer months. In most cases, the bite from a white tailed spider only causes a mild reaction.

The bite of a Redback Spider is capable of causing death, especially in small children, and any bite should be treated with the utmost caution. The bite may produce the following symptoms: Intense localised pain, with swelling and sweating starting five minutes after the bite.
